Adoption is Not Always Easy

One Writers Take on Domestic Adoption

· Adoption Stories

Most of the time, adoption organizations want to sell you the happy story. They want to you to think that is all going to work out perfectly and it will happen faster than you'd imagine. But any honest person in the Adoption Industry will tell you that is not the easiest process to go through. Some adoptive parents are matched and placed within a month, while others can wait for years. Some adoptive parents have a great experience and wonderful relationship with birth mothers. Other adoptive parents, have been scammed and tried to their wits end.

This is the story of Jennifer Gilmore, a writer and novelist from New York, and her family's journey through their first attempt at domestic adoption. (PDF Document) The follow up to this was published in the Atlantic just six months later after placement.

She has also written a wonderful novel about the adoption titled, The Mothers, which Vanity Fair said was, "A taut, emotionally gripping novel about one couple’s passionate desire for a child and their heartrending journey through adoption."
